Storyteller Enrique Feldman to visit Yuma County Libraries April 30th

Celebrate Día del Niño and Día del Libro at Yuma County Libraries! On Thursday, April 30th, storyteller and educator Enrique Feldman will host interactive story times for families at the Main, Somerton, and San Luis Libraries. There is no charge to attend.

Enrique Feldman, a two-time Grammy-nominated composer and artist, is the founder and director of education of the Fostering Arts-Mind Education Foundation and the director of Evolved Learning Conferences. Enrique guides and delivers the educational service of over 4,000 at-risk children and families.

Small Business Mentoring @ Main Library

The AWC SBDC will be on site to provide evaluation and guidance by counselors with real life business ownership and management experience every Tuesday from 11AM-2PM. If you have an idea and don’t know where to start, mentoring assistance by the SBDC can help you fast-track your plans for start-up and growth! Earth Day craft @ Heritage Library

Celebrate Earth Month at the Heritage Library! On Wednesday, April 22nd, families are invited to make Shaving Cream Earths at 1:00 p.m.  Join us and make mini planet earths using simple household items. There is no charge to attend.

Life in the Rainforest @ Foothills Library

On Friday, April 24th, Yuma biologist and author Dr. Joanne Mowczko will speak about her stay with the Achuar, an indigenous tribe in the Amazon rainforest, at 2:30 p.m. at the Foothills Library. Artifacts, photos, and videos will be on display, and Dr. Mowczko’s book, The Achuar of the Pastaza River, A Glimpse into their Rainforest World, will be available for purchase.

The Achuar have only been exposed to the western world within the last 50 years. Due to the development of the Amazon Rainforest, the Achuar people’s numbers and livelihood has been declining. Dr. Mowczko’s book is currently used by Ecuadorian naturalist guides as a resource. All proceeds from the book are used for education resources for Achuar schools.

World Qigong Day @ Foothills Library

Celebrate World Qigong Day at the Foothills Library! On Saturday, April 25th, Qigong practitioner and certified teacher Juda May will present information and demonstrate basic poses of Qigong, a Chinese exercise to achieve balance and flexibility, at 1:00 p.m. at the Foothills Library. There is no charge to attend.

Tens of thousands of people all over the world will be practicing Qigong and Tai Chi on April 25th for International Qigong and Tai Chi Day. Qigong (pronounced Chi Gong) is an ancient discipline practiced by millions worldwide and means energy work or effort. Qigong is easy to learn at any age and enjoyable to do. Regular practice helps increase muscular endurance, build muscular strength, evaporate stress, increase focus and improve overall health and well-being.

Prank Science @ Main Library

Pranks aren’t just for April Fools’ Day! Kids ages 8-12 are invited to the Main Library at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15th, for “Prank Science.” Learn how to make an erupting ketchup bottle and other silly gags to play on your friends! There is no charge to attend.

Harmonica Craft @ Heritage Library

Tweens ages 10-12 are invited to the Heritage Library at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10th, to make a Harmonica! Create your own musical instrument using the supplies provided and test it out with friends! There is no charge to attend.

Firefighter Story time

Families are invited to a special story time at the Main Library! On Friday, April 10th, Yuma firefighters will visit the library at 4:00 p.m. to talk about fire safety, read some of their favorite stories, and show everyone their fire truck and special firefighting equipment!
