The ABCDs of Medicare @ Yuma County Libraries

In September 2014, the Yuma County Library District, in collaboration with AARP, launched an Information Literacy Series to help educate people about health care, Social Security, and fraud safety.

Karl Koenig, a trained volunteer with Arizona’s Community Educators Program, coordinated through the Arizona AARP State Office will present “The ABCDs of Medicare” October 3rd, 4th, and 25th. Did you know that Medicare comes in one of two options: Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage? How do Parts A, B, and D work with each of these two options? Attend a presentation by AARP to learn more about this important subject.

Children’s Photography Workshop @ San Luis Library

Beginning Wednesday, October 1st, the San Luis Library will offer a Children’s Photography Workshop from 4:00-6:00 p.m. every Wednesday through December 3rd. Kids ages 9-13 will learn basic photography and camera techniques.

There is no charge to attend. Please bring your own camera. Digital cameras and mobile devices with cameras welcome!

Saving for College Webinar @ Main Library

On Thursday, September 25th, Adam Zoll, assistant editor of Morningstar.com, will discuss the pros and cons of utilizing a 529 education savings plan, and other ways to save for college. A question and answer session will follow. This live webinar begins at 3:00 p.m. in the first floor conference room at the Main Library. Parents and students are welcome! There is no charge to attend.

“This is My Mexico” Drawing Contest @ Somerton Library

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Somerton Library is hosting a “Este es mi México” (This is My Mexico) Drawing Contest! Children ages 7-11 will learn about children’s rights and draw pictures. Drawing materials will be provided, and a local artist will be available to help children with their drawing technique at the following times:

On Tuesday, September 23rd, children ages 7-11 will learn about children’s rights at 4:00 p.m., and think about what they might like to draw.

On Wednesday, September 24th, drawing supplies will be provided, and a local artist will be available to assist with drawings from 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Winners will receive a work of art by Fernando Andriacci, books about Mexico, and more! There is no charge to participate.
