Crystal Science @ Main Library

Did you know you can grow your own crystals? Kids ages 8-12 are invited to the Main Library on Friday, February 13th, for “Crystal Science” at 3:30 p.m. Learn about the different kinds of crystals you can grow, and take away instructions and a “seed” to try growing crystals at home! Books about crystals will be available for check-out. There is no charge to attend.

Genealogy and D.A.R. Membership Workshop @ Foothills Library

The Foothills Library, in collaboration with the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), will host a Genealogy and D.A.R. Membership Workshop on Tuesday, February 17th, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. D.A.R. members and a librarian will be available to assist with genealogical research and speak with those interested in D.A.R. membership.

Rodeo Round-up @ Somerton Library

Calling all buckaroos! On Wednesday, February 4th, children of all ages are invited to the Somerton Library to watch a lassoing demonstration at 2:00 p.m. by the Yuma Jaycees and the 2014 Yuma Teen Rodeo Queen. There is no charge to attend.

Harry Potter Book Night @ Foothills Library

On Thursday, February 5th, the Foothills Library will join libraries, bookstores, and schools around the world for the first Harry Potter Book Night! This exciting event gives new and existing fans a chance to share the wonder of J.K. Rowling’s unforgettable stories and, most excitingly, to introduce the next generation of readers to the unparalleled magic of Harry Potter.

Preparing for War in the Desert Southwest @ Yuma County Libraries

On Friday, February 6th, Bill Heidner, Museum Curator of the Yuma Proving Ground Heritage Center, will present “Preparing for War in the Desert Southwest” at Yuma County Libraries. Learn how the proving ground is used for testing military equipment. There is no charge to attend.

Firefighter Storytime @ Heritage Library

Families are invited to a special story time at the Heritage Library! On Friday, February 6th, Yuma firefighters will visit the library at 4:00 p.m. to talk about fire safety, read some of their favorite stories, and show everyone their fire truck and special firefighting equipment! Conversational Spanish for Beginners @ Wellton Library

Conversational Spanish for Beginners will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th at the Wellton Library. Alzheimer’s Awareness @ Foothills Library

On Friday, January 30th, the Foothills Library will host “The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease” at 12:30 p.m. Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. A representative from the Alzheimer’s Association-Desert Southwest Chapter will share information about detection, causes and risk factors, stages of the disease, treatment, and much more. There is no charge to attend.

Feng Shui @ Main Library

On Saturday, January 31st, Diane Hunt from Irresistible Interiors will present “Feng Shui” at 1:00 p.m. at the Main Library. Learn about the importance of alignment and balance in the home. There is no charge to attend; however, seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

Upcoming Interior Design seminars include “Budget Architectural Features” on February 14th and “How to Mix Patterns and Colors” on February 28th.

Red Heart Flute Concert @ Foothills Library

On Tuesday, February 3rd, enjoy a live performance by Red Heart featuring Native American flutes at the Foothills Library. The concert begins at 11:00 a.m. There is no charge to attend.

Red Heart has entertained thousands for many years at national parks throughout the west. Experience the hauntingly beautiful and mystical sounds of the aboriginal instruments. Hear Red Heart adapt the instruments to play long with New Age, Country Western, and Rock ‘n Roll music.
