Optical Illusions @ Somerton Library

Trick your friends using optical illusions at the Somerton Library! On Tuesday, July 1st, kids of all ages are invited to create illusions using light, color, and patterns at 1:00 p.m. Afterwards, test your illusion with friends! There is no charge to attend.

Defensa Personal para Mujeres @ Main Library

On Wednesday, June 25th, Sensei Francisco Aguilar from Yuma Shorin Ryu Karate will teach “Defensa Personal para Mujeres” (Women’s Self Defense Workshop) for women ages 13 and older at 5:00 p.m. at the Main Library. Learn practical, quick and easy self-defense strategies. There is no charge to attend.

Please note, instruction will be offered in English and Spanish. Participants should wear comfortable clothes.

The Science of Doctor Who @ Foothills Library

Can sonic screwdrivers work? Why is the TARDIS bigger on the inside? Is time really wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey? On Wednesday, June 25th, science fiction fans are invited to discuss “The Science of Doctor Who” at 1:00 p.m. at the Foothills Library. First aired in 1963, Doctor Who is the longest running science fiction show on television.

Volcano Science @ Main Library

Enjoy some eruptive science at the Main Library! On Friday, June 20th, kids ages 7-12 are invited to the Children’s Craft Room at 1:00 p.m. for “Volcano Science.” Add a few simple ingredients and watch our homemade volcano erupt! Another experiment will demonstrate how islands are formed by underwater volcanoes.

Science of Cheese Making @ Main Library

Learn how to make your own cheese at the Main Library! On Tuesday, June 17th, Francisco Villa, Associate Professor at Northern Arizona University-Yuma, will present “The Science of Cheese Making” at 10:30 a.m. Discover how bacteria, enzymes and naturally formed acids are used to solidify milk proteins and fat and preserve them, resulting in delicious cheese! There is no charge to attend this family-friendly program.

Morningstar Webinar @ Main Library

Learn financial literacy at the Main Library! On Thursday, June 19th, Josh Peters, editor of Morningstar DividendInvestor, will discuss how to build a portfolio using dividend paying stocks and how to avoid dividend cuts. Leather Crafting for Teens @ Yuma County Libraries

Teens are invited to learn the art of leather crafting with Sam Cervantes when he visits Yuma County Libraries June 14th, 20th, and 21st.  Make your own customized leather wristband using dyes, stamps, and other tools. There is no charge to attend; however, attendance will be limited to 25 teens. All materials will be provided.

Please note that this event is for teens only; young adults ages 13-18 are welcome to attend.
