Vikings are Coming! @ Main Library

“Vikings are Coming!” On Saturday, November 22nd, join Lukas and Kitt Bergqvist for a presentation about the Vikings from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Main Library. Learn about Viking history and culture, sports and games, weapons, warfare, and everyday life. Participants will have a chance to play several Viking games! There is no charge to attend.

Presenters Lukas and Kitt Bergqvist were both born in Sweden and speak fluent Swedish. They spent multiple summers studying in actual Viking villages.

Intro to tutor.com @ Main Library

You’ve got homework. We’ve got help! Located at the Yuma Main Library, the Digital Homework Help Center features study guides, tablets and PCs, and access to online resources, including tutor.com, a subscription service with live tutors for math, science, social studies and English.

Want to learn more? On Monday, November 10th, the Main Library will host “Intro to tutor.com” from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Parents, educators, and students are welcome. There is no charge to attend.

Eat Right-Feel Better @ Foothills Library

Learn about the role of diet for health and wellness at the Foothills Library! On Thursday, November 13th, retired chiropractor Debra Ivey will present “Eat Right—Feel Better” at 11:00 a.m. Learn about the best food choices to help combat disease and decrease inflammation. Policeman Storytime @ Somerton Library

Families are invited to a special story time at the Somerton Library! On Thursday, November 13th, Somerton Police officers will visit the library at 5:30 p.m. and read some of their favorite stories. There is no charge to attend.

Gobble Gobble Turkeys @ Heritage Library

Celebrate Thanksgiving at the Heritage Library! Martial Arts Demonstration @ Wellton Library

On Wednesday, November 5th, martial arts instructor Daniel Colon will demonstrate the basics of Capoeira-style martial arts at 2:00 p.m. at the Wellton Library. This Brazilian martial art form is known for quick and complex moves, using mainly power, speed, and leverage for a wide variety of kicks, spins, and highly mobile techniques. There is no charge to attend.

Tatting Group @ Foothills Library

Enjoy tatting at the Foothills Library! The Tatting Group will meet Wednesday, November 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Experts and novices welcome! There is no charge to attend.

Tatting is a 19th century technique for handcrafting a particularly durable lace constructed by a series of knots and loops. Tatting can be used to make lace edging as well as doilies, collars, and other decorative pieces.

Beginners Sewing @ Main Library

Learn the basics of sewing by creating different projects! “Beginners Sewing” will be held Friday, November 7th, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the conference room at the Main Library. A different project will be offered each month to help beginning seamstresses develop new sewing skills.

This month, create a Fall table runner!

Materials needed include:
1 package cotton crib batting
1 yard cotton fabric for back
1/3-1/2 of two or three different print cotton fabrics
Coordinating thread
Sewing machine
Scissors
ruler
pins

Please bring your own machine and materials. There is no charge to attend; however, space is limited and registration is required.

Minecraft Art @ Heritage Library

On Saturday, November 8th, kids ages 6-12 are invited to the Heritage Library at 3:00 p.m. to create a Minecraft pattern block model! Design a lifesize boxhead of your favorite Minecraft character using construction paper pixels, paint, and more. There is no charge to attend; however, supplies are limited.
