Genealogy & D.A.R. Workshop @ Foothills Library

The Foothills Library, in collaboration with the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), will host a Genealogy and D.A.R. Membership Workshop on Tuesday, February 17th, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. D.A.R. members and a librarian will be available to assist with genealogical research and speak with those interested in D.A.R. membership.

Gooey Gak @ Somerton Library

It’s slime time at the Somerton Library! On Wednesday, February 18th, children ages 6-12 are invited to the library at 2:30 p.m. to make their own Gooey Gak using glue, Borax, and other household ingredients. Materials will be provided. There is no charge to attend.

Stargazing @ Main Library

On Friday, February 20th, astronomy enthusiasts are invited to the Main Library for “Look Up!” a series presented by Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator Ken Conway and NASA Solar System Ambassador Kevin Koski. There is no charge to attend.

Sew In @ Wellton Library

Make a pillowcase, make a difference! The East Valley Optimist Club, in conjunction with the Wellton Library, is sponsoring “Sew-ins” to sew colorful pillowcases for cancer patients at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital as part of Optimist International’s Childhood Cancer Campaign.

Saturday, February 21st
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

There is no charge to attend. Participants should bring the following:
•    Sewing Machine (a limited number of machines will be available)
•    Thread
•    One yard cotton print (42-44 inches wide)
•    1/3 yard solid color cotton fabric (42-44 inches wide)
•    Brown bag lunch

ABCD Quilting @ Main Library

On Wednesday, February 11th, Kim Fauth, author of ABCD Quilting: Absolutely Beautiful Creative Designs, will discuss the ABCD technique at 10:00 a.m. at the Main Library. Examples of quilts made with the ABCD technique will be available for viewing, and books will be available for purchase after the presentation.

Kim Schrader Fauth has been teaching quilt classes for approximately 10 years, but has been quilting for over thirty years. A former math teacher, she is an expert at explaining material so it makes sense. When she came up with the new ABCD Technique, she shared it with her Monday quilting group. They strongly encouraged her to write a book because the technique was so new and different.

Paper Flowers @ San Luis Library

On a budget for Valentine’s Day? Teens can learn how to make pretty paper flowers for that special someone at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12th, at the San Luis Library. Materials will be provided. There is no charge to attend.

Crystal Science @ Main Library

Did you know you can grow your own crystals? Kids ages 8-12 are invited to the Main Library on Friday, February 13th, for “Crystal Science” at 3:30 p.m. Learn about the different kinds of crystals you can grow, and take away instructions and a “seed” to try growing crystals at home! Books about crystals will be available for check-out. There is no charge to attend.

Rodeo Round-up @ Somerton Library

Calling all buckaroos! On Wednesday, February 4th, children of all ages are invited to the Somerton Library to watch a lassoing demonstration at 2:00 p.m. by the Yuma Jaycees and the 2014 Yuma Teen Rodeo Queen. There is no charge to attend.

Harry Potter Book Night @ Foothills Library

On Thursday, February 5th, the Foothills Library will join libraries, bookstores, and schools around the world for the first Harry Potter Book Night! This exciting event gives new and existing fans a chance to share the wonder of J.K. Rowling’s unforgettable stories and, most excitingly, to introduce the next generation of readers to the unparalleled magic of Harry Potter.
