Celebrate the life and legacy of a pioneer Yuma teacher on the occasion of her 175th birthday! On Friday, June 17th, Carol Brooks will present “The Life of Mary Elizabeth Post” at 11:00 a.m. Join us for birthday cake and a closer look at the life and career of this remarkable woman who was inducted into the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame in 2002.
Mary Elizabeth Post was born June 17, 1841 in Elizabethtown, New York, and came to Yuma in 1872 after graduating from Burlington Female Seminary in Vermont. Mary E. Post Elementary School is named for her as a memorial to the 40+ years she worked to improve education in Yuma.
Carol Brooks is the retired curator for the Yuma branch of the AZ Historical Society, and continues to research and write about the history of Yuma and Yuma County.
