In March 2023, the Foothills Library will host the 7thAnnual Art & Poetry Exhibition, where artists and poets inspire each other! The theme for 2023 is “Crossing Yuma.”
Yuma has always been a crossroads. Whether it was the earliest ferries, the first railroad bridge or the Pacific Highway, Yuma was the way across the mighty Colorado. But the movement of peoples isn’t only from East to West but also North and South whether the migrant and immigrant families of Mexico and elsewhere or our Winter Visitors from colder climes. Let’s not forget our armed service members deployed to the Desert Southwest! Yuma can be a way station or a final destination. Because, even with so many people coming and going, the charms of Yuma have led many who were “just passing through” to turn this desert oasis into their home.
Local artists interested in displaying artwork may submit a total of two pieces by Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Artwork must be ready to hang or display, able to fit in a regular sized sedan, and appropriate for viewing by the general public.
Beginning December 7, 2022, local poets can visit the Foothills Library to choose art that inspires them. Poets may submit up to two poems by Saturday, January 28th. Poems can be a maximum of two pages, and may be typed or handwritten, but must be legible for transcription purposes.
Please join us for the grand opening on Tuesday, March 7th, at 11:30 a.m. The exhibit will be available for viewing throughout the week, and attendees will be encouraged to vote for their favorite artwork, poem, and collaboration. An awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 11th.
