It’s science on the go at YCLD libraries, with the launching of our series of STEAM on the Go take-home science kits.
Each month from now until September of 2024, your nearest branch will be offering a different project for kids, teens and families to request. Most of the kits are recommended for ages 8 and up, but younger kids can do the fun, science-based projects, too, with a little adult assistance.
The kits include: Musical Kazoos, Drawing Robots, Strawberry DNA Extraction, Paper Circuits, Popping Stix, Puffball Catapults, LED Flashlights, Rubber Band Vehicles and Solar Reactive Paper.
Every kit will contain supplies and instructions to create one complete project, which will introduce youngsters to concepts in engineering, robotics, circuitry and more.
Accompanying instructional videos will also be available on our YouTube Channel where we will explain the concepts being demonstrated in each kit.
A new kit will be unveiled every 3rd Saturday of the month, and all you need to do to get one for your child is head to your nearest branch to request one, while supplies last. The kits are free, and will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Funding for this program was provided through a generous grant from the Library Services and Technology Act and is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
